Objects in the center of a photograph have jagged edges

The cause of jagged edges is low resolution. These jags are more noticeable on objects with clear edges or lines, such as small tree branches. There are two complementary ways of improving this kind of image; you can increase the resolution, and assign intermediate tones to pixels on the edge. Manually adjusting the pixels is extremely time consuming. Adobe Photoshop's anti-aliasing feature does this automatically.

Use the Navigator window to select the anti-aliasing feature. In the Toolbox, switch from the Lasso Tool to the Marquee Tool and use this to specify an area for anti-aliasing. Next select Show Navigator from the Window menu. Click on the Options tab in the Navigator window to execute the anti-aliasing routine.
